Israel and Egypt Exploration Schedule

Day 1 - Departure

Sit back and relax as you depart for Israel and Egypt and begin this exciting adventure of a lifetime!

Day 2 - Arrival

Upon arrival we will be transferred by deluxe motor coach to our hotel near the Mediterranean Sea for dinner and an overnight stay.

Day 3 - Caesarea, Cana, Nazareth, and Sea of Galilee

We begin our tour by driving north along the Mediterranean Sea to Caesarea, a city founded by Herod the Great in 22 BC. Here Peter proclaimed the good news to Cornelius. We’ll explore the famous Roman theater, harbor, hippodrome, and palace before continuing north to Mt. Carmel, where Elijah prayed down the fire of the Lord and defeated the prophets of Baal (1 Kings 18). Next, we’ll visit Megiddo where over 20 layers of civilizations have been found. We’ll observe the beautiful Jezreel Valley (Armageddon) before driving through the area of Cana and Nazareth, Jesus’ boyhood home. After visiting the Nazareth Village, a recreation of biblical times, we’ll have dinner and stay the next two evenings on the shore of the Sea of Galilee.

Day 4 - Capernaum

Today’s travel takes us to the northernmost city in Old Testament days, Dan, where the wicked king Jeroboam set up a golden calf (2 Chron. 11). Then we visit the breathtaking Banias Falls at the city of Caesarea Philippi where Peter made the great confession of Christ’s deity (Mt. 16). Before leaving the area, we’ll visit Nimrod’s Castle perched atop a bluff overlooking Banias Spring. Returning to Galilee we stop to visit Hazor. We then proceed to Capernaum, Peter’s hometown and the base of Christ’s Galilean ministry. Our final stop will be Mt. Arbel for an overlook of the Sea of Galilee. From this vantage point we can pinpoint significant locations of Christ’s ministry.

Day 5 - Boat Ride on the Sea of Galilee

Our day begins with a relaxing boat ride on the Sea of Galilee. We then travel southward following the Jordan River. Our next stop is Beth Shean to view the spectacular Roman/Byzantine ruins with the Old Testament site in the background. The bodies of Saul and his sons were hung from the city walls (1 Sam. 31) after being defeated by the Philistines. Continuing south we’ll pass the city of Jericho, the ancient Canaanite city destroyed by the power of God. Jericho remains one of the oldest known inhabited cities in the world. Our next stop is En Harod, the site where God reduced the army of Gideon from thousands to only 300 men. He then went on to fight the Midianites and won a spectacular victory. Finally, we ascend the Judean wilderness to the Mt. Scopos overlook. From there we will survey the city of Jerusalem. Following dinner, we will check in to our hotel where we will spend the next three nights.

IsraelDay6 - Jerusalem

Our day begins with a short drive to the top of the Mount of Olives for a panoramic view of Jerusalem. Jesus delivered the Olivet Discourse here and foretold the destruction of the temple (Mt. 24-25). We’ll walk down the Triumphal Entry Road and stop at Dominus Flavit, the traditional site where Jesus shed tears over Jerusalem. Continuing our descent of the Mt. of Olives, our next stop is the Garden of Gethsemane where Jesus prayed the night before His crucifixion. We’ll enter the City through Stephen’s Gate to view the Pool of Bethesda and St. Anne’s Church. In the Old City we’ll walk along the Via Dolorosa (The Way of the Cross/Sorrows) stopping at the Church of the Holy Sepulcher. After viewing the Western Wall and Rabbinical Tunnels, we’ll end our day at the Garden Tomb where we’ll get a sense of the agony of Christ’s crucifixion. Following the tour of the Garden Tomb, we will have a special, private communion service. There is no better way to conclude our day!

Day 7 - Jerusalem

Our day starts at the Southern Steps of the Temple Mount. We will sit on the temple steps where we know Jesus actually walked. We’ll also view the Dome of the Rock, the area on which Israel’s Temple once stood. Following lunch you’ll have the remainder of the day free to shop, rest, or catch your breath. Our optional tour will be ancient Zion, the City of David. Near what is believed to be Potter’s field, we’ll see some of the most authentic remains of our entire tour, including the original shaft which David and his men used to enter the Jebusite city and Hezekiah’s water tunnel and the Pool of Siloam. Before returning to our hotel, we’ll visit the Jerusalem Model and see the city as it was during the Roman occupation.

Day 8 - The Dead Sea

We leave Jerusalem to travel to the lowest spot on earth, the Dead Sea. One of our stops will be Qumran, site of an ancient Essene community and of the discovery of the Dead Sea Scrolls. Afterwards, we proceed to En Gedi, an oasis on the western shore of the Dead Sea. Conditions permitting, we will hike up to the waterfalls where David found refuge from King Saul. Then we go high above the Dead Sea to Masada, the spectacular mountaintop fortress of Herod the Great. Masada is famous for being the last stronghold of the Jewish rebellion against the Romans. From the top of Masada, the Roman camps and siege ramp can still be seen. From the Dead Sea we continue southward to the beautiful resort city of Eilat, located on the shores of the Red Sea. Time permitting we will enjoy the resort’s many amenities.

Day 9 - Egypt

We leave Israel today to begin our time in Egypt. Crossing the Sinai, we’ll see the area of the Exodus, the land of the Pharaohs, Jacob, Joseph and Israel during the famine. By early afternoon, we’ll arrive at our hotel just below St. Catherine’s Monastery at the foot of Mt. Sinai (Mt. Horeb). We’ll enjoy our first Egyptian meal and get plenty of rest for our EARLY MORNING activity.

Day 10 - Sinai

For those physically capable and sufficiently motivated, we’ll leave our hotel about 2:00 AM for a memorable early morning hike up Sinai. You may choose to ride a camel part way! We’ll stop at one of the stations to take in the scenery along the climb to the summit (about 750 steps!) for a sunrise to remember. After a devotion time, we descend the mountain to enjoy breakfast and a tour of St. Catherine’s Monastery, the traditional area of the “burning bush.” The remainder of the day will be spent traveling westward across the Sinai, arriving in Cairo late in the afternoon to check into our hotel and enjoy dinner together.

Day 11 - Egyptian Pyramids

Our day will be spent exploring the ancient treasures of Egypt. First stop, one of the Seven Wonders of the Ancient World, the pyramids. Cheops, 496 feet high, is the most colossal pyramid ever built. We’ll also see the Sphinx and tour the Egyptian Museum, location of Tutankhamon’s treasures and ancient remains.

Day 12 - Memphis

We start our last day with a short bus ride to Memphis. Founded circa 3,100 BC it is the legendary city of Menes, the king who united Upper and Lower Egypt. Memphis is likely where Abraham lied to Pharaoh about his wife, Sarah, being his sister and where Joseph served as second-in-command. Our next stop is Sakkara, dominated by the Step Pyramid of Zoser, 2,700 BC. In Faiyum, we’ll see the ancient storehouses and man-made lake whose construction was ordered by Joseph.

Day 13 - Return Home

After breakfast, we leave Cairo and arrive home with memories to last a lifetime!
