About Us

Welcome to Hillside Community Church. We are a small church located in Julian, CA.

Hillside is located in the old Baptist church biulding on the corner of "Third" and "C" Street here in Julian. It started about four years ago as a plant from EFCC.

The Hillside Culture:

Every church has a unique culture--a set of unwritten but deeply-held values that shape the "feel" of the church. Here are some distinctives that make Hillside what it is.

We focus on Jesus. What matters most to us is that everyone who comes to Hillside gets to know Jesus Christ intimately.

We are passionate about building up believers and reaching unbelievers. What makes our hearts beat faster, helping people find Jesus or helping people follow Jesus? Both! Our mission statement confirms that: We exist as a local church: "To faithfully proclaim the gospel to the world at large and to nurture the believers into fully devoted followers of Christ."

We rely on the power of God's word and the influence of God's people to change lives. God uses many tools to change our lives, but none more powerfully than the Bible and Christian friends. These are the two main ingredients of our ministry mix.

We expect people to exercise their gifts with excellence. God deserves our best effort in using what He has given us to honor Him.

We believe spiritual growth requires both balance and depth. That's why we help Christians at all maturity levels to connect, share, grow and serve in new and deeper ways.

We keep the main thing keeping the Main Thing the main thing! Hillside is more like In-n-Out® than a buffet. True there are fewer choices, but on the other hand, your growth opportunities are of the highest quality.

We hold tightly to Scripture and lightly to traditions. We are spiritually conservative but culturally relevant.

We avoid politics to reduce obstacles to outreach. We care too much about people's eternal well-being to limit our ministry to either Democrats or Republicans. Both are welcome at Hillside!

We offer the best care through friendship. When you are in need, nothing beats a network of close friends.

Our Mission:

To connect people to God and each other, changing lives.

Our Vision:

To faithfully proclaim the gospel to the world at large and to nurture believers into fully devoted followers of Christ.

Our Core Values

Hillside Community Church is a local, independent Bible believing church. Our Core Values are reflected in the acronym C.H.U.R.C.H. As a CHURCH we:

Celebrate God in truthful, spiritual WORSHIP. Therefore, we respond to God's presence with us in all of life's circumstanes. (John 4:23; Exodus 20:4-6; 1 Peter 2:9; Colossians 3:23; 1 Corinthians 10:31)

Honor the "Great Commandment" and commit ourselves to God's "heartbeat," EVANGELISM. Therefore, we aggressively proclaim the gospel message locally and internationally. (1 Timothy 2:4; Luke 19:10; John 3:17; 2 Peter 3:9)

Urge one another to SPIRITUAL MATURITY. Therefore, we strive to grow in Christlike love and care for each other, serving in our area of spiritual giftedness. (Ephesians 4:13-16; Colossians 1:28-29)

Rely on God's Word, THE BIBLE, that is relevant and sufficient for every generation. Therefore, we follow the Scriptures as our only rule for faith and practice. (2 Timothy 3:16-17; Hebrews 4:12)

Commune with God in PRAYER. As we align ourselves with God's will through prayer, we realize His power for ministry. Therefore, we pray regularly for the ministry effectiveness of Hillside Community Church. (Colossians 1:11; Ephesians 3:16; Exodus 17:8-13; Ephesians 6:18-20)

Help connect people to God's family through FELLOWSHIP. Therefore, we participate in "life sharing" groups in which spiritual growth is nurtured, loving care is practiced and godly relationships are developed. (Acts 2:42, 44-47; Hebrews 10:23-25; John 13:34-35; Ephesians 1:5)

We seek to fulfill God's purposes for the church by participating in the 5 Key Activities of:

  1. WORSHIP. We honor God by exalting His character and by dedicating every activity in life as an offering to Him (Exodus 20:4-6; John 4:23-24; 1 Peter 2:9; 1 Corinthians 10:31; Colossians 3:23; Revelation 4:11).
  2. FELLOWSHIP. We honor God by connecting with his people and sharing life together (1 John 1:7; Acts 2:44-47; Hebrews 10:23-25; Romans 15:5-7; John 13:34-35; Ephesians 1:5).
  3. DISCIPLESHIP: We honor God by growing toward spiritual maturity and Christlikeness (Ephesians 4:13-16; Matthew 18:20; Romans 8:29; Colossians 1:28-29; 1 Timothy 2:2).
  4. SERVICE: We honor God by using our spiritual gifts, our natural abilities and life's experiences to serve others (1 Peter 4:10-11; Matthew 25:34-40; 1 Thessalonians 5:11; Galatians 5:13; Ephesians 4:11-12).
  5. EVANGELISM: We honor God by sharing the good news of forgiveness of sins through Jesus Christ (Matthew 28:18-20; Mark 16:15; John 3:17; Luke 19:10; Acts 1:8; 1 Timothy 2:4; 2 Peter 3:9).
